"Twitter critics of the court decision are saying that it's the result of a 'bully verdict,' an assault on religious liberty, or worse," CBC News reported.
The settlement announcement comes at a time when anti-discrimination laws and religious liberty protections are repeatedly coming into conflict, such as on college campuses and in state legislatures.
Under the agreement, the gateway homepages now ask just whether a user is a “man” or a “woman.” Spark Networks agreed that within two years, it would adjust other searching and profile features to give gay and lesbian singles a more tailored experience.

Given its design, Christian Mingle has no feature for gay users to find other gay users — everyone is simply put in the same network and must figure out who is gay and who is straight.
The Nevertheless, while the suit has forced the site to provide minimally helpful service to the gay Christian crowd, gay Christian leaders continue to see little value in using Christian Mingle.
Christian Mingle.com, billed as the largest online community for Christian singles, required new users to specify whether they’re a man seeking a woman or a woman seeking a man.
The lead plaintiffs, two gay men who tried using it, claimed that the limited options violated California’s anti-discrimination law. For the same reason why the Christian bakers were forced to make gay wedding cakes.
Now, people will simply sign-up as a male or female.
