Is there any way I can force a manual update of the Offline Address Book (OAB) in Outlook or reset it completely otherwise?
Outlook global address not updating
I created an alternative OAB, connected it to the Default GAL, made that OAB the defualt OAB, and tried to download it through Outlook. The first thing I would do is switch to either web only or mixed (web and public folder).
Then once set, run get-offlineaddresbook | update-offlineaddressbook Wait 20 minutes or so for it to update, then check in the Application log to see if there are any generation errors.
I ran the commands you recommended and tried it about 4 hours after that. As another way to troubleshoot the problem, I created a new profile for Outlook.
It had all of the up-to-date information until I did a manual send/receive of the address book.
In this guide, the relevant timings are explained and instructions are given in how you can directly force an update and resync, which can be very handy when troubleshooting or when you work in an Exchange environment which sees a lot of user mailbox mutations.
This means that in the worst possible scenario, an update to the Address Book won’t become available to the user until 48 hours after the change. In that case the whole OAB is being downloaded again.I might have a problem with my Offline Address Book in Outlook. When it didn’t or when you want to make sure you do have the latest OAB available, you could manually trigger an update from within Outlook as well.If the update mechanism appears to be broken for you, it could be because of a corruption in your OAB or in your mail profile. In the Information to download section, select Full Details and in the Address Book section, choose \Global Address List. **NOTE** Please read this section carefully, or your update will not work!!
